How to stream videos in iPhone and iPad to Chromecast using nPlayer

nPlayer, the No.1 iOS video player, supports Chromecast. Now, with nPlayer and Chromecast, you can watch videos on any devices. Before we go into details, please let me briefly explain how it works. nPlayer plays a role as a repeater: it sends video or audio files to Chromecast and Chromecast plays them. Please note! Not all videos and audios available on nPlayer can be played on Chromecast but only those that meet the standard of Chromecast can be.

For videos, Chromecast only supports mp4 and mkv formats and h.264 and VP8 codecs. For audio files, it supports AAC, MP3, MP4, WAV and WebM formats and HE-AAC, AAC, LC, MP3, Vorbis and WAV (LPCM) codes. If a device connected to Chromecast supports AC-3/E-AC-3, Chromecast also supports Dolby codec. (DTS not applicable) Please check out HERE for more details.
Here is one more thing you need to be aware of: the official size of a video that Chromecast supports is 1080p. However, we found that the streaming quality is limited to 720p but it is usually sufficient for most videos.

So the bottom line is:
1) Chromecast only supports mp4 or mkv files.
1-1) Other than mp4 and mkv files, no video files can be played on nPlayer.

2) Chromecast only supports h.264, VP8 video codec.
2-1) Video files encoded by any other video codec cannot be played on nPlayer.

3) Chromecast only supports HE-AAC, AAC LC, MP3, Vorbis, WAV (LPCM) audio codec.
3-1) If only Dolby codec (AC3) is built in the device connected to Chromecast, it will work.

Now, let’s try and play a video file to Chromecast with nPlayer. Forget about the long introduction, ‘cause it is very simple. All you have to do is a simple push of a button!
(We will skip the Chromecast settings here.)

First, play a video on nPlayer. And then, push the icon in the lower left corner (See the picture).
You will see the name of Chromecast installed in the same network.
※ nPlayer and Chromecast must be in the same network.

Once you click the name, you can stream it to Chromecast.
Very easy, right? Now you can watch videos anytime, anywhere with nPlayer and Chromecast.

Are subtitles still visible when chromecasting?

    • nPlayer

You can see subtitles on Chromecast but we do not support graphic subtitles.

      • Phillipe

What do you mean by graphic subtitles?

        • nPlayer

The Chromecast’s playing principle is, if nPlayer sends a file to the Chromecast, playback is done by the Chromecast. Not all videos and audios available on nPlayer can be played on Chromecast but only those that meet the standard of Chromecast can be.

Chromecast supports text-based subtitles formats such as SMI and SRT. Embedded subtitles and graphic subtitles formats(ASS, SSA) are not supported on Chromecast. Hope this helps.

      Any answer, nPlayer Team?

      • Israel

Did you see this icon at YouTube???

  • Israel

My problem is that in the local contents, the light ones <500MB, the cast is ok, but when I try to launch a heavy content, it is impossible to do. The screen is in black.

The Chromecast’s playing principle is, if nPlayer sends a file to the Chromecast, playback is done on the Chromecast. Not all videos and audios available on nPlayer can be played on Chromecast but only those that meet the standard of Chromecast can be. And nPlayer supports all video formats(MKV, AVI, MP4, etc) including ‘H.264’ video codec when using Chromecast. Please check the video codec.

If problem persists, your sample file would help us. If you can, in order to test in the most similar conditions to those where you did, please upload your sample file to ftp://test.newin.co.kr or give us your file link to support@nplayer.tv. When we get the sample, we will check the file and try to find out what the problem is.
